Guide · Remove a background

How do I remove the background from a logo or signature without uploading it?

Drop the image into Sealique: browser-based processing detects the background colour, makes it transparent with soft edges and trims it; nothing is uploaded.

A logo on a white square, a stamp photographed on paper or a signature scanned from a letter all look wrong when placed on a document. This tool turns that flat background transparent so the image sits cleanly on any page. It works for anyone, with no account, and the picture never leaves your device.

Key facts

  • The background remover runs entirely in your browser: the picture never leaves your device.
  • It needs no account; signed-in users can keep the result in their library.
  • It is built for logos, stamps and photographed signatures with a plain background.
  • The result is a transparent PNG that can be placed on a PDF as a signature or logo.
  • A tolerance slider and a compare view let you check the edge before downloading.

Remove a background, step by step

  1. Open the tool and drop your image

Go to Remove a background and drop a PNG, JPG or WebP of your logo, stamp or signature, or tap Choose an image. No account is needed and the file stays on your device.

  2. Check the detected background colour

The background colour is read from the corners of the image. If it picked the wrong one, tap Pick from the image and then tap the background in the preview.

  3. Remove the background

Press Remove the background. Processing happens in the browser and the result appears in the preview in a moment, with the background shown as a checkerboard.

  4. Fine-tune the result

Adjust the tolerance if shades of the background remain, choose Connected to the edges or Everywhere, set the soft edges, and keep Trim empty margins on to crop the result.

  5. Compare and download the PNG

Switch between Before, After and Compare, try a white, dark or blue backdrop, then press Download PNG. Signed-in users can also press Save to my files to keep it in their library; the downloaded PNG can be uploaded as your signature in the signing flow.

Remove a background needs no account; nothing is shared with third parties.

Questions people ask

Is my logo or signature uploaded when I remove the background?

No. The image is processed in the browser on your device; nothing is uploaded unless you are signed in and choose Save to my files.

The page reads the pixels with a canvas in your browser, makes the background transparent and builds the PNG locally. Only the optional save for signed-in users sends the finished PNG to your library.

Does the background remover cost anything and do I need an account?

No. It is public: anyone can remove a background and download the PNG without creating an account.

An account only adds the option to keep the result in your library with Save to my files and to see your recent logos. The downloaded PNG can be uploaded as your signature on the My signatures page or in the signing flow.

Can I remove the background of a scanned signature on my phone?

Yes. Open the tool in your phone browser, choose a photo of the signature, and the cleaner runs on the phone itself.

Good light and a plain sheet of paper help the corner detection find the right colour. If the paper is uneven, raise the tolerance or pick the background colour by hand.

Which image formats are supported and what do I get back?

PNG, JPG and WebP images can be loaded; the result is always a transparent PNG, trimmed to the content while Trim empty margins is on.

Large images are scaled down to a sensible size before processing so the tool stays fast on any device. A logo or scan on a plain, evenly lit background gives the cleanest result.

Why is part of my logo missing after removing the background?

The tolerance was too high or the logo contains the background colour; lower the tolerance, or make sure Connected to the edges (the default) is selected rather than Everywhere.

Connected to the edges only removes background that touches the border of the image, so the inside of letters such as O or A stays filled. Everywhere removes every pixel close to the chosen colour.

Does the same cleaning happen when I upload a signature to sign a PDF?

Yes. When you upload a photo of your handwritten signature in the signing flow, a browser-based cleaner removes the background automatically.

The cleaned signature is then placed on the page and sealed with the PAdES digital signature like any drawn or typed signature.
